Cool! Thank you. It took some effort, but I found the deposit. Now I just have to figure out a good time to plan a road trip.

I gotta find my way to that spot. I am real good at getting stubborn rock out of where it wants to stay with just a few hand tools and some gentle persuasion.

Have seen a good bit of Llanite over the years and collected a couple times there including my trip referenced above, have never seen any with the large light colored phenocrysts. It may be from an area of the outcrop other than the roadcut. I googled it and there are a few pictures of carved pieces that are labeled Llanite with those large phenocrysts, so maybe it is.

I would suggest a pry bar along with a hammer and a chisel. I would suggest digging on the west side of the roadcut, material looked a bit better, less weathered than the east side.

I have a 5 foot pry bar. Lots of chisels and an eye for finding natural seams and cracks to exploit.

I agree. I've been out to that outcrop 3 times. I've got around 100-150lbs or so of material and I've never come across material with such large phenocrysts, or such a dark base material. Fabulous specimen!

How did you know that was llanite MsAli ? Is there a chip or broken side? Or have you just found it before and knew the location? (or purchased it?)

My llanite doesn’t look like that! Wouldn’t mind if it did!

Supposedly they find it in Brazil also. Apparently they call it Que Sera Stone. Maybe that is what I have?

Have you cabbed any yet? Looks like it would be a pain to work. Like potential for undercutting or hard to get a polish.
