OK, you all were right and I was wrong. I previously poo pooed trying to get more oil from the sludge once you decant the oil off of it. I havne't cleaned my 16-inch saw too many times but in the past I just kept decanting the oil off the top until I wasn't getting much more and then disposed of the sludge. So last time I did the same thing and got to the point where I wasn't getting too much more oil to decant. I then put all of the sludge in a brown paper bag and let it filter for 2 weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks I got one and a half quarts off of the decanted sludge. How could I have doubted you? Good thing someone posted about the brown bag method! Thanks!

I'm still amazed at how clean it comes out after running through the bag. Glad you had success with it.

If you want it to come out quicker one use one bag. I've done the double bag method and it seems to take so much longer

One bag’s never failed me.
Two-bag job is a whole ‘nother ballgame.

I made a video about it. It does work. It is slow but effective. The bag you use matters too. A few weeks back I playe4d a game with how long it would take. I chose poorly when it came to bags because the bag I grabbed was so fine that it took about 10 times as long to work as normal. That slime is still in the bag and it is almost spent. Next time I will use the bags I usually use. They let the 1,000,000 mesh stuff through but that is ok with me.

Will try regular bag next time.

I just use a pillowcase or flannelette shirt, it traps 99.9% of the gunk. We don't have big brown paper shopping bags in Australia.

I just use one bag. Works fine. It is amazing how crystal clear it comes out.

Yep, we have a setup we did with a 55 gallon drum with a suspended bucket. Put the bag in the bucket, and clean oil drops into the rain barrel with a spigot. Works wonders and saves us a lot of money!

I don't filter anything, I just pour everything into a 5 gal bucket and let it set for a couple weeks and ladle off the top, easy peasy
