Hi all, I recently set up a new machine and bought two of the "off brand/generic" wheel wetters/water spitters.
I did read reviews about them not being as nice as the ones that dp supplies with their machines but figured since I have a burley airpump from aquariums that it would suffice.
Well in fact my burley airpump doesn't seem to help much. In fact put of the 3-4 airpumps i have at my disposal the only one that outputs enough air to (somewhat) adequately spit water to my wheels is a "topfin" brand airpump with two outputs. However even this pump only pushes water out of one of the outputs.
Just wondering if anyone knows of a good pump that will work for these things?
Side note for anyone wondering /considering using these...the off brand spitters actually spit drops of water rather than the mist that the dp spitters produce.
Not sure if the dp ones work better bc of the airpump being integrated with the arbor shaft and thus pumping at a much higher rate than the other ones or if its possibly due to the dp spitters output being a much smaller diameter hole thus restricting the water making it more of a mist.
Also, lesson learned...I should have just bought the dp replacements at more than 2x the cost or struggled to make my own however I have already purchased these and would rather get them working instead of buying dp replacements.
I am using these on 8x3" expanded drums and need two under the wheels at a time to cover the width of the wheel.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!
Josh

No idea how it will work for your wheel wetters. But I have an older model of one of these
I use mine on my scroll saw to blow metal away- it's not cheap, but it's powerful, but what's nice is that it actually has a dial so you can adjust the flow of air.

I use a pump from a nebulizer for people with breathing problems. It is bigger than aquarium pumps and works better.

I purchased a pump for a DP Titan geyser and it requires more air that the geyser for a DP 6" machine. I also wanted to be able to run both geysers at the same time if necessary for a class. So I found the following that all met my requirements (in August 2020):Piston driven Air pumps: Coralife 05146 SL-65, 3.9PSI, 2.3cfm(65L/min, 35watts @120v Better option** $70.45 on amazon Marine Depot 87.49 Ken’s Fish $79.99 chewy.com $70.45 walmart $76.99
Active Aqua AAPA70L - 70L/min =>2.47cfm=>1110GPH, .03MPa=>4.3psi, 60watt, 60DB Better option** $67 on Amazon, Ebay $60.11 44.65
EcoPlus Commercial Air 3, (Model 728455), Single Outlet pump 1030 GPH => 65L/Min => 2.3cfm, 3.8psi Fresh Water Systems $47.99 Horticulture Source $45.49 ebay $54.49
O2 Commercial Air Pump Aquaponics: 794 GPH => 50L/Min(1.76cfm), .03 MPa => 4.3psi, 35Watts about $49 ebay
Air pumps are like electricity with PSI=Voltage and CFM=Amperage This would be probably more than you need but the price is not that much more. I ordered off Amazon for $40 and it never came so I canceled the order and found a place That did fish and hydroponics and it was about $70. Been working great since.

I use a tetra 60-100 gallon aquarium pump I got at Amazon. It has two outputs and does a decent job.
I had two nebulizer pumps. I've been doing some serious decluttering and tossed the better one. When I dig through the pile of stuff, I might find the other one and try it out.

I'm sure that you have lower cost options, but here's a great eBay deal for a new industrial Medo pump:
When my Pixie pump quit years ago, I bought a used Medo compressor pump on eBay. I mounted it on the Pixie's base and it's been working great since. They're built for long life with continuous operation.
The pump listed above should deliver an excellent spray. Based on the rated air flow of the Medo AC0401A and AC0602, it should put out somewhere between 70-90% more air than my pump.
If interested, my original post about my Pixie modification is here:

My nebulizer pump pushes way more air than my Tetra 60-100 aquarium pump. It only has one outlet but I have a T fitting to use two spitters and it still throws more water that my large aquarium pump.

rmf I was thinking of something similar so thank you for giving me an idea of how big to go! gunsil are the nebulizer pumps adjustable regarding air flow, they sound *very* powerful! opalpyrexia that is a new style of pump to me, unfortunately I sealed the motor housing in my machine with silicone and now the whole base rests in a pan that holds the water for the spitters. Thanks all for the suggestions! Thinking about a nebulizer pump if they are adjustable, can quite tell from the pics on ebay but they can be bought quite cheap!

No, my nebulizer pumps are not adjustable but they work just fine with either DP or aftermarket spitters. I use one on my Titan regularly. I still prefer my old Raytech GSP-8 machines with pressure water feed but I use the Titan for some things. Some folks on RTH have converted their DP machines to pressure water feed which I feel is a better system.
