Date: September 8 2023 Weather: Sunny blue sky with a few white clouds, 77°F Destination: Along the stream Deiningbach near lake WalchenseeDisclaimer: No stones found worth picking up. So this goes to the "Member Photography" section. Wanted to plan a little trip with my "rock hounding / outdoor" friend and browsed around on Google Maps. In the region near Walchensee I noticed a litte marker called "canyon". Nothing else, just some really nice pictures. That "canyon" was supposed to be the streambed of the little mountain stream Deiningbach. Well it's been many, many years since I visited lake Walchensee, so I felt enticed to get back there and check out a new area (and a new mountain stream) at the same time.  Said and done. My friend was quite happy with my suggestion and off we went on our litte adventure.  Now... you know me. I HATE trails. I LOVE making my own path.  So we started walking along / in the stream as soon as the regular trail started to move away from it. It was glorious! We had baths in amazing " Gumpen", sat on rocks above waterfalls, climbed, swam, jumped from boulder to boulder and walked through hip deep water... until we arrived at the location that was titled "canyon" in Google Maps. Funny realization: The pictures which did show the canyon where taken looking way down (from the trail) into it. The crazy pair of us actually managed to map out that canyon from below - and the views where so worth it. So what did we do? Climbed up and - with a big simile - looked down to enjoy the "sane people" view into the canyon. Great adventure.
Next time we'll take the trail up to this point and then climb down to explore the stream further up the mountain. I sense more excitement and exploration around the next brook bend! Enjoy and have a great day everyone! Gabriel

Gabriel...I know I'm always saying thank you for posting these pics...and I know it may sound cheesy...but I actually got choked up by the stunningly beautiful scenery you're sharing with us on this last trip. It's just breathtaking to me! |

What a beautiful place, VERY different than your regular stomping grounds.
Interesting geological formations.
Looks like it was likely hard walking up the creek in some places - but a fun adventure.
Was that ice already ?

You capture some really beautiful outdoor scenery in your photography.I especially liked the tree that had the two fungus growths and the outcrop with the tree silhouetted on the top that showed contorted rock layers. Do you ever find war artifacts that wash into the streams?

Gabriel...I know I'm always saying thank you for posting these pics...and I know it may sound cheesy...but I actually got choked up by the stunningly beautiful scenery you're sharing with us on this last trip. It's just breathtaking to me! Nope. Not cheesy at all. I love nature and being out there. It's what anchors me in life, what fulfills me. To be able to share the beauty I experience with other ppl. and getting a positive response from it... makes me very happy and deeply grateful.

Ice? No.  It was a warm and sunny day. "Hard" is ... a matter of perspective. We had to be careful but it was all well manageable. I made sure to pick climbing paths where the worst thing that could have happened would have been a drop into the water - never bare rock. And oh yes it was beautiful. Hope to be back soon. |

Do I ever? Let's say very rarely. However, I sometimes thought about bringing one of those metal detectors with me. |

Not really any in that area. Don't misunderstand, I was looking for sure... just nothing really caught my eye. I have to explore that area more so see if it's actually worth frequenting for rock hounding. For having a great trip it definitively is.
2. I would LOVE to get there by night... let me explain a litte problem that we have here: You are allowed to park only in designated parking areas when driving out into nature. Which is not a problem cause there are actually plenty and you find them even in really remote areas. BUT: You are only allowed to park there from 0600 till 2200. So no overnight stay. No where. Otherwise I would have extended quite a few of my trips.
