Sounds like the perfect trip With the exception of my issue while on Topaz mountain (another thread) it was awesome for sure.

What a beautiful trip! Thanks for taking us along.
Your scorpion/Benitoite blue specimen fools some folks out here in Benitoite country. Clear Creek in California.

Great report! Thanks for all the pics. I live vicariously through all you Westerners. I'll likely never make it out there, but it sure is beautiful.

Looks like you had a great trip. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pics. I'd say you found more than a few geodes. Looks like quite a haul!

I will keep that in mind if I go through that way next year. Perhaps get together for a quick rockhounding trip if you are up for sharing an area with an out of towner. Although according to a local rock shop there, the whole area is picked over. At least that's what they told me when I asked if they could point me towards any areas to search. I was at the counter with a $100 dollar order and all I could get was "the whole area was picked over". Didn't even matter what I was looking for. I wasn't looking for a spot.....just an area. Well as it turns out, there's still some stuff out there I was able to find and other places to do business with in the future.

I am from Michigan and had to make the drive. I would encourage anyone interested in the west to try and make a trip happen. Even if it's just to one area of a mountain state it's worth it. Pictures really don't do justice for the western scenery.

I'm not sure who said the areas were picked over...but if they had "Fairburns" in mind when they said that, they'd be right. However, I've taken a bunch of RTH members (who've been through this area) out to some hounding grounds that will fill any and all of your cargo space available, if you're wanting awesome tumble-worthy rocks. Heck, there's always a chance you "could" find a Fairburn too!

Love Bristlecone pines, how they get naturally sculpted.

What amazing photography. Looks like quite an adventure. I've never been to Sturgis, but knew someone who used to go there every year by Harley. Nice rock finds too. I guess that's just part of the adventure. . goes without saying. Thanks for sharing!!
