I'm not sure I've ever really figured out what following another member is all about. Is there something I'm missing?
I follow a bunch of members and the reason why is I thought it would be a fun way to keep track of all those who I've sent rocks to. There are several exceptions though.
I'd like to hear the reasons why others follow people on this forum.

I asked the same question ages ago. fossilman told me that he uses it as a reference. He knows that X had an answer, but doesn’t remember the details. So he looks up X to refresh his memory.

I followed a couple people who either were selling rocks or who at some point had an interesting thing to say. But I wasn’t really sure what the following action would bring. Thought maybe I’d get a notification or something but I haven’t seen anything like that and come to think of it that’s probably a good thing, don’t think I’d want notification every time they posted. So maybe it’s just a good way to find someone quickly, like a bookmark. (?)

In January 2019 I posed this question. You answered. If you look in the threads I’ve posted, you will see it.

One reason is similar interest. For example, let's say you are a wire wrapper. So you may want to follow other wire wrappers on here.
Or if someone is always giving great tips on rock tumbling you may wan to follow them to make sure you see their posts.
Or you may want to follow someone who is always finding great new specimens so you do not miss their posts when they find something new.

I know there is a way to hide the posts of specific members. I can't remember how to do it, but I can tell you there are a couple of members that I've banished from my screen. Instead of following, I'm running the other way.

I think I followed a few people but didn't see any reason to do it aside from it being easier to find them if I wanted to contact them.

As per ProBoards: For example if I go to "My Profile" and then click the "Following" tab, it takes me to this page. I'm only following RWA3006 so it shows me everything that he's been up to. From there, if you want to snoop on who he is following, you can click his name and see all the events from folks he's following. exampleTo me it seems like a bit of a useless feature as it's a bit noisier than going to a person's page and just viewing their threads and comments.
