We took a few days to visit Dinosaur N.M. and the surrounding area, didn't disappoint. This is a large area and features rivers, rock art and a terrific quarry that's been preserved. The quarry is a covered area, 150 feet long and 2 stories high. They have left the bones in situ, just amazing to view. Hard to wrap your brain around bones that are 65 million years old. Within a few miles of the quarry is some great rock art and views. There are seven lizards on this panel, we had a lot of fun counting them through binoculars: These were at McKee Spring, about 20 miles from the quarry. Hundreds of years old:

Wowzers Win! I like what you said about being difficult to wrap your head around bones as old as those. You're right...I think we oftentimes can't comprehend the actual magnitude of time involved in the creation of the things around us. Thanks for sharing the pics!!

Thats crazy! Thank you for mentally bringing us on that trip. Mentally Its a mind bending experience to be confronted with that passage of time.
When I image galaxies, its still mind boggling the distances involved

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I'm gonna show this thread to the girls, and this could be a future family trip for us! We, as humans, exist in just a small sliver of time when taken in the context of the history of life on earth.

Coincidentally, I came across this video last night - reduces the scale of time of earth to a 24 hour period. Dinosaurs arrive at 10:34pm... Humans arrive at 11:59:23pm... I imagine some of the rocks we play with are unbelievably ancient !

Someone reminded me of my thread on Rock Art. The Craig Childs book "Tracing Time", has a large snake petroglyph on the cover. We visited that site on our way home from Dinosaur N.M. Another nearby - the "Juggler"
