After you've tumbled your rocks, what do you do with them? Right now I just like to put them in a bowl, sit on the floor, and say, "Mine! All mine!" ;D I hope everyone is having a week full o' swellness.

Hi DurboRox, the "mine all mine" thing is always fun, do that myself . I sold a few this year at several flintknapping/rock shows. $0.50 ea. or 3/$1.00. It helps to cover grit. I figure at that rate, in only 412 years or so, the money I've spent on equipment will be fully recovered. I also like to give them to kids, family, friends, and co-workers as lucky stones. It is really fun to watch people pick through them to find the perfect one for them. I also plan to do some wire wrapping to make pendants for necklaces, sometime down the road. But I really want to learn to cab and facet, there are so many things to do with rocks! Talk to you later, Don

A few dozen years ago, I started a "rock" garden. A few of my nicer bigger rocks, some succulants and this really nice Gerber Daisy. A few days after finishing, I went out to find my Gerber Daisy was reduced to two stems sticking out of the ground, and found and a mile or so of slug trails leading back to holes in the ground. After finding Sluggo (the only slug bait I could use with pets around), all was well...um..untill they became immune. Gallons of salt later...immune. I used to drive my truck up and down my front yard in the middle of the night, spotlight in hand, to run the little buggers over. It took only a few nights of this until my kids started wondering about my mental health so I tilled up my whole front yard and started my dry riverbed yard. Living on a river full of rocks it hasn't been half as hard as doing battle with the slugs. I use my polished rocks as borders between different colors of jasper and tons of agates and well, nifty rocks I have found here and there. By the way, donwrob, I figure that the money I have spent for my supplies couldn't be as much as all the Sluggo, salt, slug smashing tires and gas I would have spent by now. However, my kids are still worried about my mental health Be Well, Sekhmet

I have old crystal vases full of polished rocks all over the house. And that's from one batch!! My grandkids also go around with pockets full of rocks because they want just "one more , please...."
Enjoying their enjoyment of the rocks.

I include them in my stain glass projects (copper foiled). They add nice texture to a candle holder or box.

Greetings All, So far I've gotten two 6 quart batches through one aluminum oxide polish stage. The first batch was all green aventurine, I gave some pieces away and actually sold 1 lb for $25.00. This second batch is mixed, predominately leopardskin jasper but with some green and blue quartz aventurine and some red orthoclase feldspard as well. I took them over to a friend of mines store yesterday, he's the guy who has a nice collection of bog iron, including a few natural cup-shaped pieces. I left a few choice pieces with him, they look very nice just sitting in the bog iron cups, I'll promise to get some pictures as soon as I have a digital camera to do so with. The rest I think I will take up to work tomorrow, see if someone wants to buy some, or maybe I'll just put them back up for a second round of polish, cerium oxide this time, and see if I can get them even better than they are. I dunno, for me I almost like working with them more than having them, but once they come out of the polish, and I get to wash them off and see them for the first time, well that really makes all the work worthwhile. And when I'm in the right frame of mind, stoned with the stones as it were, well then I can spend hours just sorting them and grooving on them. Simple pleasures, but definitely cool William C
