Magnetite deserves a space all to itself. Not all Magnetite is Naturally Magnetic. It is thought that lightning strikes starts electron circulation Which continues. The chemical composition of magnetite is Fe2+(Fe3+)2(O2-)4. This indicates that magnetite contains both ferrous (divalent) and ferric (trivalent) iron, suggesting crystallization in an environment containing intermediate levels of oxygen. The structure is inverse spinel, with O2− ions forming a face-centered cubic lattice and iron cations occupying interstitial sites. Half of the Fe3+ cations occupy tetrahedral sites while the other half, along with Fe2+ cations, occupy octahedral sites. The unit cell consists of 32 O2− ions and unit cell length is a = 0.839 nm. Very interesting 1daveTell us more about the pipe laying in the sandstone! Shockwaves travel at different speeds through sandstone, water and iron which forms "Liesegang Layers" in sandstone. When the layers get thick enough, they turn into pipes. In Arkansas: in Egypt:
