Some years ago I bought some diamond belts that were marked 600, 1200, 6 micron, 3 micron, 1 micron and .5 micron. I've consulted several tables but none of them so far help my non-technical brain translate micron sizes to mesh sizes. Are there any geniuses out there who can help me do so? I realize the smaller the micron size the finer the mesh size but I'd really like to know how they relate to grit sizes. TIA!

It's converting micron to grit...rather than trying to convert micron to mesh. www.bestsharpeningstones.com/article_details.php?id=1&article_name=Micron%20to%20Grit%20Conversion%20Calculator6 micron = 3307.7406667703285 3 micron = 6894.070867181565 1 micron = 22079.563530063555 .5 micron = 46018.745430040355

From Rio Grande:
30 microns = approx. 400 grit
15 microns = approx. 600 grit
9 microns = approx. 1200 grit
3 microns = approx. 4000 grit
2 microns = approx. 6000 grit
1 microns = approx. 8000 grit
