The difference between Geodes and Thundereggs Geodes are formed by Gas bubbles rising through Liquid Basalt or Andesite. Basalt is fine grained and has a smooth surface. Andesite has larger crystals in it, and therefore a rough surface. Thundereggs are formed by Cristobalite growing crystals in High Silica Magma chambers and being expelled to the surface. The release of pressure allows the trapped gas to expand.
