I will be in Panama for the next month. While I'm there, I will look for some pretty rocks to bring back with me for my tumblers. Last trip down there I brought back some incredible red jasper from a small rocky river near Cabuya, Panama and it tumbled quite nicely. Here's a good picture of one and I hope to find some more this trip.

I hope you have a safe trip ctxtumblebug! I also hope it's not a work trip...or if it is, that you get a ton of free-time while you're down there!

I've been to Panama once. I was attending jungle warfare school. Didn't do any rockhounding. Good luck!

Ive been through the canal a couple times while in the Navy, years later I was able to obtain some gorgeous Panama agate that was collected while building the canal. I kick myself for not buying it all Keep an eye put for some

I am on my way back to Texas after spending a wonderful month in Panama. The weather was fantastic and the fish were biting like all get out everyday. Rockhounding is not very good in Panama but I did find some more of that nice red jasper and a few mystery rocks to bring back with me. Those will all go into my checked baggage so they won't get confiscated by the Panama authorities. Occasionally, my bags get inspected by TSA staff when they get to the USA but they let my rocks make it. This is because I have them neatly packaged all together in a single bag inside of my checked bag where those inspectors can easily see it. I also have a note inside with those rocks that states: "Rocks For Lapidary Projects" and this satisfies those inspectors pretty well.

There are agates there! I remember an old Lapidary Journal article about it. Keep your eyes peeled!
