I did a 3-day show last weekend. It was my first lapidary show. Did okay. Sold a bunch of slabs. I got a commission from someone that bought a labradorite "coin" with a lion carved on the front. She wanted something very plain done and silver. This is what I came up with. Sent her a picture and she's very happy with it.

Very nice, shows off the piece as it should. The fine detail in that carved piece also has me intrigued as to how it was made. And I ain't lion...

Thanks all, I appreciate it. It's definitely tight. I bent the front wire to retain it and had a heck of a time getting the stone back in the frame. I think the wires finally stretched! I thought about doing a couple of flourishes on top to kind of mimic the lion's mane but I'm glad I left it simple. And I ain't lion... Thanks for giving me a little chuckle today Rockoonz. It's been a stressful week!

Excellent! IMO, this is *exactly* what that beautiful carving needed, even if she hadn't asked for simple. I get it with the lion's mane swirls, though.

Beautiful job on the pendant! The wrap is perfect for that stone.

The carving is off the hook did you get that done else were or inhouse? rockbrain The lady that had me do it handed it off to me at the show. I did nothing but wrap it. I assumed she bought it there from one of the many dealers selling foreign made obelisk, spheres etc. It still had a price tag on the back. If I remember correctly it was $24. Pretty cheap for a nice piece of carved Labradorite. It has a decent flash and was oriented nicely.

24 bucks yeah some slave like labor is involved. A pitty, you did a fine job.o suppose you could add a tag assembled in America lol it always blows me away to see the USA flag on say a DeWalt tool that says assembled in America with foreign parts. Gotta skirt the tarrifs some way lol. But seriously I like what you did thier it looks manly and precise.

I see your point, but your link is Chinese.
I used to work for a catalog company who imported a lot of dollar store type stuff from China in the early 90s. We used to get boxes with messages for help scrawled in pigeon English. Made me feel real crappy about working there.

Old cameos are identical, and hand made. Kinda hand made. At some point they started using pantograph type devices as crude followers to mostly rough out the design, and many of them still use them. When it's all you do, making hundreds of pieces that are virtually identical to the naked eye is easier than it would be to many.

I strongly suspect that much from India is really from China. I know that Chinese beads are all over India, and the tariffs are much less on Indian products than on Chinese ones. . .
