Well, the weather in Oregon is looking exceptionally cold and rainy for the next week so I may have to trim off hounding/camping. I was really surprised at the temps. Maury at 18° Nope! I think I will do Richardsons and China Hollow and then maybe head to Idaho Rocks. Sure wanted to hit Glass, Hampton, and Maury. Maybe a future trip. Boo!!

Middle 30°'s is about the limits of my gear and with rain/snow for the entire area yuck. Sadness. It's been amazing though so I can't complain too loudly.

I wouldn’t get too dissuaded. The weather in central Oregon is extremely bipolar. You could head up through Idaho and then cut through on Hwy 20 heading west to central Oregon. That takes you through graveyard point. I never trust what the weather says around here. It’s just overcast here right now with sun breaks. Rained last night.

I got the pleasure of meeting up with ronnsrockroundup. He gotta go through the pile and pick out some pieces. Now fingers crossed when he gets them home and washed up he gets some real beauties. If not, I let him in on some trade secrets of how to dispose of them 😂 Ronn. I’m super glad you got a chance to swing by. Honestly, it was a pleasure to meet you and your daughter and chat rocks with someone who loves rocks as much as myself. I’ll definitely be continuing to follow this thread on your travels. I already informed jasoninsd how cool of a guy you are. So hopefully you guys get to meet.

So we spent the night in lovely Winnemucca. If you go I would not recommend the Jack in the box, at least that's what my digestive system told me this morning. We made our way north in the rain to Mcdermitt and as the weather was nasty stopped at Caldera rock shop and scored some awesome Gary Green and Purple Cow. I'll post pics soon. My Daughter got to hold a baby lamb while I was out getting soaked, and throwing the stick for Rocky the Australian Shepard who was deaf but was insistent. The good part was the rain made it easy to find the best pieces, and man did I find some beauties. We made our way northwest through some amazingly beautiful country. There was some gusty wind and rain showers but if you get a chance to drive some of these obscure back country highways you won't be disappointed. We made it into Prineville and hooked up with Realrockhound and did some backyard hounding that was mind blowing. You Da man realrockhound, I can't thank you enough for the conversation and education, and of course your extremely generous samples. I've got to organize my rocks so I don't lose track of what and where the come from and what they are. We just ate dinner and it's almost bedtime already. Whew' another amazing day in the books. Thanks for tuning in and following our journey. I hope it inspires others to get out as the prior posts/posters inspired me.

Your the best, and my daughter really loves the rock you gave her, I know because she has brought it up in conversation three separate times in the last few hours. I suspect she will have that rock proudly on display for the rest of her life. I can't thank you enough for being a great part of our trip. You Rock!

There were like 60 of them 😂 Definitely reach out if you need help identifying any of them. Off the top of my head, there was nyedegger, chinese jasper, Rocky butte jasper, bat cave, rainbow obsidian, ochoco tube agate, Carey plume agate, Robinson ranch plume agate, ochoco rim jasper, pink opal thunderegg, multiple varieties of Maury moss, then like 40 other types 🤣🤣

I really would’ve like to take them out to “the sweet spots” and give them some insider secrets as how to find stuff beyond what’s known. But…. At least they got materials from the locations they had planned on hitting up while here. And…. It’s was easy digging 😂

Where abouts are you at now? Did you ever make it through Richardsons, and the china hollow shop?
