So I picked up about 8 pounds of Labradorite for tumbling. It was pretty cheap, and I love iridescence, so I thought I would give it a try in the tumbler... Smallest pieces are about 1/2 x 3/4 to 1 x 1 1/4 from a batch I bought on amazon. ALL of them have lots of iridescence when I put them in a Mason jar with water, but mostly blue, one piece had some yellow, gold/orange, red. I also bought 5lbs from the Rock Shed, larger pieces, up to about 2" x 3" Two of these pieces have some full rainbow going on, but only in small areas... Not much to this piece, maybe 1/4" wide x 1 1/4" long & angle has to be pretty precise to see it, but it's almost full rainbow there, missing is indigo & deep purple. Then there's this piece: A little over 1/2" wide by my thumb, and about an inch long. It does have the full rainbow, and even blue so dark it looks black. Also found a piece with a nice purple field! NOT Labradorite.... but I also bought a piece of "Sapphire" that was HEAVILY dyed a deep blue. I'm relatively certain it is Sapphire, just a clear one. It has been in the tumbler for 2 weeks and has not lost any measurable weight, but my scale only does whole grams... The blue dye was hiding this: With the light at just the right angle the color shifts to a nice purple.

Checking the progress on the Labradorite, and found this one: Some nice yellow / gold / orange in there And also a pic of that 'sapphire' before I put it in the tumbler. This was after soaking in water overnight to remove as much of the blue dye as I could! I wasn't sure what to make of it at that point
