Ok. One last post for the day. My sister-in-law picked this stone up in Petoskey because she said she thought is was perfect for her latest grandson, Austin. Well, I wasn't too impressed when I first looked at it. I thought "How am I going to make this look good"? Much to my surprise, it turned out pretty well. Hope you enjoy the pics, Chris Before. After.

OH MY GOSH CHRIS! You really pulled a rabbit out of a hat on that one! Great work on that! The "top" came out a LOT better than I thought it was going to from the "before" pic!!

Amazing transformation... looks very nice. Thanks. Thanks. OH MY GOSH CHRIS! You really pulled a rabbit out of a hat on that one! Great work on that! The "top" came out a LOT better than I thought it was going to from the "before" pic!! Me neither. When I started, I was wondering if it would look good at all.

OMG OMG OMG! When I saw the first ones, I was like....hmmm... I don't know about those... Then I saw the after pictures and I did a double take! I kept going back and forth between those before and afters and... just WOW!
You really have the eye for finding things! So lovely! Great work! I have to wonder how you knew they would be hiding all that goodness inside?

Awesome job. I've found that Petoskey stones that look bad from Lake Huron are just that bad. Petoskey stones from Lake Michigan that look bad have a good shot of having a awesome pattern come out. Its weird but Lake Michigan Petoskey stones are my favorite..... to bad I live on Lake Huron

The ones from Lake Michigan maybe don't have the darker eyes but a lot of them have an amazing amount of detail that shows.

Its weird but Lake Michigan Petoskey stones are my favorite..... to bad I live on Lake Huron I don't have that much experience with Lake Michigan Petoskey stones, but I have thought the exact same thing. I'm basing that on seeing pictures just like the ones in Chris's post here. If I picked that rock out of Lake Huron, chances are it would look terrible after polishing. But, I have also polished some bad ones out of Lake Michigan. And since I'm judging most Lake Michigan rocks on before and after pictures posted on the Internet, it could just be that only the amazing transformations are posted online and the duds aren't talked about. By the way, that's a really nice polish job, Chris. I just polished one from Lake Huron yesterday that had one of those great transformations. The comparison to Chris's rock isn't really fair though, because mine was more covered in dried algae or some other sort of scum and you could see through enough to see that it had potential. Chris, your rock just looked like it had very little potential before you started. Here's that rock from yesterday. This video isn't out yet, but I'll give you guys a sneak peak. Don't tell anyone.

That is a nice one! Hard to say how many Lake Michigan ones are good or not good. I do know it is becoming a lot harder to find good ones in Lake Michigan. I end up giving a lot of the ones I polish away to people and a lot of the time I only polish one side because the quality on the other side isn't that good. The ones that I bring home to Missouri and decide are not good at all go into our gravel driveway. Someone, someday is going to wonder how they all got down here. If I picked up one like in your video from Lake Michigan, I would bet it would be 10% chance or less that it would end up like yours did polished.
