i have a Star Diamond 6 inch combo unit i am rebuilding. i have not got the new wheels yet but it does have a good saw blade. the original wheels were silicon carbide and they were chipped and i did not want to risk them shattering on me while i try to use them. can i use the saw blade without the wheels on it?

I don't think it should be an issue. Some of those look like they're set up with an expanding drum on the end. You didn't mention it but if you do happen to have one of the rubber drums you aren't supposed to run those without a belt on them.

My machine doesn't have an expandable drum, just 2 silicon carbide wheels, a side plate for polishing and a saw. It's good to know I wind damage anything if I use it as just a trim saw for a bit.
