Quartz questions!

It’s my first time handling such clear quartz so forgive my noob questions, please!

The light refraction makes it look like it’s glowing blue inside, is that normal? 

Also, is this clear quartz the “optical quartz” people mention for triplets? He had some faceting supplies as well although I haven’t seen signs that he ever tried it. Is quartz like this a typical beginner faceting material?




Edit: after examining it closer I realized that every piece has some internal fractures, so must not be for doublet capping. Cheap beginner faceting rough, then? Have found a lot of rose quartz as well, which I assume is cabbing material since the only clear piece has internal fractures.

Glass clear quarts is called optical grade, and is used for quartz caps. Yes quartz is a good beginner stone. ONe old facetter I knew put a double diamond cut on quarts (diamond = 58 facets, DD on quartz is 116 facets) and it was spectacular. prettier than diamond.
