Was thinking of that, some of those companies are crazy high... Plus finding a reputable freight company too ..

Check with the shipping companies that do freight for the conventions, especially rock shows like Tucson. Cannot recall the names of the companies, but looked at their rates a while back and many were way cheaper than I was expecting.

Im in a similar conundrum. However, I’m trying to work on an agreement to get three large storage containers and placing them on family property. Then filling them full. The damn rocks, saws, etc.. are the one thing that’s weighing me down from making a move.

I told the wifey we will never be able to move, she was not happy.

We rented a portion of an Estes truck. They dropped the trailer in our driveway, we loaded it, they picked it up and delivered it to the new address 1800 miles away. Was the most economical that I found at the time. Worked well other than having to lift everything to semi trailer height.

We only took 6 feet of the trailer, floor to ceiling of course. There was a solid bulk head installed between our stuff and whatever else was loaded afterward. I think I paid around $600 in 2012. Timing was good. We had enough time to reach new location and not be terribly rushed. I also looked at Pods, but they wouldn't deliver to my new location at that time. At that time Estes did a lot of business moving military families.

I would think those "PODS" would be a solution to move the fragile stuff but I like the idea folks have about the container drop off and fill. Might want to rent a fork lift to handle drums of rocks etc. Rob

I can get the storage containers for around $1000 a piece. Can get them dropped at the property. I’ve just been extremely lazy about making it happen because I know the work that’s gonna be involved

Now is the time to get out of Oregon. Although the rocks are nice there, the people are Nutcases!
When we moved, we found a Tongan family of movers in SLC. Those guys muscled everything out of our home in SLC, the storage container in Orem, unloaded it all here in Enoch for $2,000. Muscles do the job!

That's what the rocks are for, chucking them at the nutcases... well not the pretty ones of course. Rocks not nutcases, you don't have to preserve the pretty nutcases.

I like Oregon and the nutcases, especially Portland, which is very progressive. I would think there would be nice rocks in SD as well. Maybe keep the sentimental, special stuff and sell the rest. Get new rocks in SD. Sounds like an adventure.

Maybe find a hotshot trucker with a trailer capable of loading and hauling a stuffed container? Then you have the storage when you get there. There are FB groups for people who haul a variety of "small loads". I had Smith Specialties move a vintage mobile home from here when I sold it, but it was 35 feet and I think he said that was close to his length limit. Don't remember what it cost, buyer paid.

I think that we need to just leave it at that though, this is not the political discussion zone.

West of the cascades is substantially different in regions as compared to the East of the cascades.
