a coworker gave me a piece of calcite to see if it will polish. i know it is a hardness around 3 but wondered if it could be put in a rotary tumbler along with harder rocks, 6 to 7 after about the 4th day of tumbling the harder rocks in 80 grit. has anyone tried this or have a good thought on it. thanks

Tumbling the calcite with the harder rocks in stage 1 (80 grit) is fine. Just be prepared they will get shaped much faster, which could be a good thing.
Accomplishing a shiny finish in the later stages will be challenging that I don't have success yet. All the successful videos that I have seen seem to do something special such as dry polishing in tumbling, or babysitting the pieces.
