Hi all. Well, I had so much fun making that knife, I decided to make a second one. This time I took pics along the way. This one is 4" in length and a little over 1/2" high. I used a different slab of obsidian for the blade and this time I used Rhodocrosite for the handles. Hope you like it. This is the glued up blank Here it is after rough shaping Here it is after the final shaping and the scratches removed And here is the finished knife. Thanks for looking.

Very good job. How much time do you have in it?

This one took me a little over an hour. The Rhodocrosite is alot softer than the yellow jasper I used on the first knife.

Thanks everyone. Cher, the first knife was 5"x3/4" so this one is his little sister(girlie knife) and very expensive, since I paid $30/lb for the Rhodocrosite. These are pretty easy to make and I highly recommend that anyone with a grinder try it. If I knew how to knap obsidian, I think that would look pretty cool for the blade.

Ooooo yeah, a knapped blade would be awesome. Time to learn a new skill Ed?

That one is pretty cool ed, great job. I'll knap you up a blade if you would like - send me what you are looking for size wise and I'll try to get it to you.

Hey Robert. The blade would have to be knapped after the knive is finished, so I'm not sure if that's possible or not.

KD, I'm not sure how close the wheels are on a Genie, but I was having problems on my grinder with the handle touching the next wheel while I was grinding the blade and visa versa. You just gotta angle it a little bit. Try it, I'm sure you'll make something very nice.
