I think mystery stone#1 has to be algae.
I personally like the back to back picture jasper. Looks like cripple creek or somewhere close. THat would make a nice lapidary tile. And the bigger piece of picture jasper next to them aint too bad either.
Some boxes are better than others.

Yup, mystery stone #1 is fossil stromatolite algae from the Wamsutter, Wyoming region. I think that's the Eocene Green River formation if I'm remembering right. Mystery stone #2 is psilomelane, messy to cut and grind but it makes outrageously fine cabs when cut just off parallel to the banding to capture the best whorls. Awesome haul Stoner. Can't wit to see the cabs......mel

Too bad about the fractures, but that's definitely some sweet material!! I've tumbled the mystery stone #1 before (It was sold to me as turritella, but I tracked it down as stromatolite, Mel gives better info.). It comes out shiny from a tumbler, but I think cabbing it will give you much better results because you will be able to orient and highlight the pattern. Here's a tumble pic, shine shows up better in real life. Thanks for not using thumbnails on these pics (thumbnails are a pet-peeve of mine)
