Hey all. Tony dropped by with a piece of jade he wanted cut in half so he could fit the pieces in his saw to slab. So I locked this thing down in the vise of my 18" saw and let it do it's thing. I use a gravity feed on my saw and either use a coffee can full of rocks or in some cases I have a rather heavy chunk of steel to use as my feed weight. After about an hour of non stop cutting, I decided to check on the progress-about half way through the rock. So I put on the heavy weight and started it up again and 45 minutes later, it was almost through, but the piece hanging off was so heavy it started pinching the blade, so I called it quits and broke it the rest of the way off. Here's the beast. Note the 1 gallon can in back as a size reference. The inside of the rock. That is some tuff stuff.

And some gorgeous stuff too. I'll bet it's a fun thing to work w/ that material. I can't believe how big a piece that is. I'll bet that was fun dragging that up to the parking lot....whew.

Now that's a rock! Very nice and I know a lot of slabs is going to come out of it. Wonder what size tumbler you would need to tumble that?

Ouch. Just the thought of lifting that rock hurt my back! Get a good slice out of that. Can anyone say, "Jade Frisbee"!?

Holy cow Ed! My old saw would have the legs scared off it just looking at a rock that big. Really neat rock and great color too. Lots of good slabs in that monster....mel

Wow, what a monster. I like the photo 3rd photo down because it makes the jade look shimmery, like the ocean. Very cool. Steve

You should have seen Tony trying to decide whether or not to cut this piece or just keep it as a speciman. He looked like he was trying to decide which new car to buy. I've heard back from him and it looks like if it's going to be slabbed, I'm going to have to do it for him because it won't fit in his saw still. I agree with Kim, it looks cool just standing upright. I think he should just break out the grinder and do his polishing magic on the outside and call it a speciman-or two specimans.

It perfect Carving rough that way too if you ask me. PLus, now with the cut, it gives it a nice base to start from. man, it sure is a super piece. Can wait to see the slabs and how translucent the material is.
