Howdy folks, Well, since I dug that barite pseudomorph out of the rock pile, I figured I may as well saw it up some. Also ran into another estate sale find so slabbed it too. Thanks for lookin....Mel Agatized ( more properly jasperized as it's non translucent) barite nodule from the San Rafael Rim area of Utah: This material goes by several names but E-Bay sellers are now calling it Mystery Mountain Plume Agate. From Nevada. Rest of location is a "mystery".

I really like the colors in the first one. Dont think i've ever seen anything like that before. The second one has great patten. And it looks like a couple of druzy pockets, which I like too. I think I'm using the right term in calling them druzy pockets. (little pockets of crystals)

Oh, the subtlety of coloring in the first specimen is gorgeous. The Mystery Agate looks like delicious fudge slices, or maybe a really fun Rorschach Test.
Thanks for posting. Hope to see something real pretty come out of that jasperized nodule.

Mel, are you sure that the first one isn't Petrified Peppermint Ice Cream? hehe...
Nice slabs!

Mel, for some reason, the plume is remindingmy of Lysite. I guess it is the color and some of the pattern. When I stare closely, I got to admit it really has too much pattenr to say it looks like Lysite, but that was my 1st impression. Do you see it?

Tony: I photograph all my slabs wet .
Daniel: Lysite is pretty variable but I don't really see these as being much the same. Lysite's base agate is less clear while this is quite translucent and lysite in cross section is almost like a stalactite with lots of concentric opaque rings while this to my way of thinking is more of a moss-tube type agate. I don't know where the plume thing in the name came from...mel
