Howdy, Well we were talking about serpentine the other day and it got me to thinking about cutting some up. So, I dug out a block of my favorite serpentine from up near Valley Springs, CA. This one is called "Bird's Eye Serpentine" in the rock books but I've also seen it called "Frogskin" and "Lizardskin Serpentine". I kinda think the latter two names better suit the material. All these slabs are still a bit oily so the water puddled up and doesn't really show the highlights too well. Thanks for lookin...Mel The serpentine. This material has a nice texture and doesn't fracture or flake as much as lots of other serpentine. Cut a little Hornitos Poppy Jasper too. MY buddy calls this form the Holy Grail as we just keep looking for the source but find only a very little bit. Much redder than most of what we find.

That Hornitos Poppy Jasper is very nice but the Serpentine is calling to me. I have some of its cousins.
Come here, leetle leezard. You'll like it here in Florida with all the other snakes and leezards.

Those sure are some purty slabs. Love the green but the poppy is my favorite.

Your poppy is always a real treat Mel! That's some pretty nice serpentine too, does it take a good polish? Hey Mel at our luncheon Weds up in St Paul we had the University of Minnesota Raptor Center stop by to give a talk and show off a few very beautiful birds. The lady brought a red tailed hawk, a barred owl, another smaller owl (forget what it was called).. and a bald eagle! It was so cool! Oh man I snapped off a bunch of pictures and not one turned out worth a damn! But it was a great and informative visit

Very cool Brian! My wife and I are working the fair four days this week. Think we'll take different birds on different days. Gonna start with Rosie the Redtail and Sam the Pigmy owl tomorrow. Haven't worked the serpentine myself yet but I've seen it worked up and it was pretty nice.....mel

The lizard skin looks very fine, what marvelous material, but the poppy jasper is astonishing, what incredible stone, super sweet. Congratulations on that one Sir.
Where can I get some? And does it polish well in the tumbler? I've had a browse about but can find nothing that looks as amazing as yours. It may be sacrelige to tumble such fine stone, but I firmly belive you get out what you put in!
