Howdy folks, Here are a few pics of some of my Nipomo show finds. Like I said, very disappointing. At least all the slabs were huge and cheap. Most I paid was $2.00 and some of these slabs weigh over a pound. Specimens came from my favorite roving rockhounds that always seem to have a few really unusual finds for my collection. Thanks for looking....Mel This is a rare one: Austin Blue Agate Nodule from Austin, Nevada, the turquoise capital of Nevada. Neat polished moss agate nodule from the Big Diggins south of Deming, NM. Lysite Agate from eastern Wyoming. Colorful pet wood slab from northern Nevada Stone Canyon Jasper: I have lots of this but heck it was already cut for $1.00 each and they are big colorful slabs Finally, lots of huge Maury Mountain Moss Agate slabs from central Oregon. Also cheap so even if I cut them up for the tumbler they're a deal!

All three of those Stone Canyon slabs look mighty nice, Mel. And you can't touch those prices on eBay!!!

Those are some nice slabs. Only $2 per pound! Wow! They would make some awsome tumbled stones.

Does that 6th one have a lizard in it? Or am I seeing things. Yep, I see the lizard, too. It's creeping in from the left. Looks like it's been in a fight 'cause its tail is mashed in one place and forked at the end. And my husband and I both see the profile of an ancient Greecian goddess in this slab: What a neat haul! You not only got great rocks, you got hidden pictures! Thanks for sharing! Lady B

Mel, Nice buys there. I like the blue nodule and that Nevada Pet Wood looks sweeet! I see the Lizard but am still searching for the greek goddess...maybe she flew off? I'd really like a shot of your whole slab collection Mel! I know from the material you post, I have never heard of about half of it. Steve

Holy cats Steve! To take a pic of my slabs it would probably take an aerial photo *L*. I've got a lot of slabs and once I figured that when my saw is running, I increase the collection but about 30 slabs per week not counting what I buy ( and I buy way too much *L*). Yeah, I know, I'm a totally addicted fanatic *sigh* And I'm currently thinking I actually need "More saws!" so I can saw more rocks.....mel

Okay Mel....so...let me put your address in GoogleEarth and I should get an idea of just how many slabs you have; right? I just know that you have quite a collection of what you share with us, and many of them I've never heard of. I know this has been asked before, but do you display them on shelves?? Steve

Steve: I have a showcase in our living room that is from an old museum and measures about 4 foot by six foot and I kinda rotate specimens through that one but mostly I have storage shelves with bin upon bin of slabs. I write labels on the slabs but I'm pretty disorganized and use bin labels like "Oregon stuff", "rare southeastern stuff"," African stuff" etc etc. so often have a hard time finding a specific example *L*. I keep promising myself to make a better system but I keep getting stuff so fast I never seem to catch up.....Mel

Mel, That sounds really fantastic. I think you should consider a book with all the rare and hard-to-come by samples that you must have. It sounds like you have a collection worthy to be in a museum. Thanks for answering all my quetsions. Steve

SWEET slabs! And nice visual imagining your yard full of slabs, side to side, end to end - from the air. Made me giggle as I looked at the slabs I have that snowdog sent me when I first started this board - I keep thinking I'm going to cut them up and do some tumbling with them - but they are so damn pretty the way they are! So I guard them. ;D And lick them from time to time. I'd go nuts at a show like that. I apparently need to get out more...
