I was doing some jade cutting tonight and came across a interesting one. This had a silvery rind on the outside and a brilliant green chrome looking inside. I will try and cab some in the coming days and will post if it turns out. Here are the pics:

Very nive combination of silver-green and deep-green. But is this the way you hold the rock while cutting it? It seems very instabe, it could spin

That is a purrrrty piece of Jade there Tony. I like the lighter/darker green combo, and the inside of that one is interesting...it almost looks like a softer material. Steve

Noob question here. Can you cut it suspended in air like that? I would think it would fracture somewhere between the blade and support.

Boy Tony, some of my diver friends used to dive Jade Cove and I was not real impressed with what they found. I went once and found some sort of ehh pieces. But man, you are nailing some really pretty material. I'd never have believed all those fine blues and such nice green examples were there to be found. This piece you've pictured here is colored almost like Frazer River Jade. Excellent find!...Mel

That jade looks like it should be oozing some kind of juice! It looks like an exotic fruit! Beautiful stuff!

Tony- I cut jade like this all the time and it works really well. The clamp on this machine is pretty good, I make sure it is really tight before I make a cut. Mel- I have heard from numerous people that Big Sur jade is not high quality. After 20 years of diving there I have seen quality shades of green and blue that rivals any other nephrite jade mine in the world. In fact I was so fascinated by the jade that comes out of there I made a informational ( I am still working on the info part) called www.pacificjadeart.com I put various kinds of jade you can find in this area.

Great website Tony and without a doubt, you are finding some outstanding jade specimens that rival the best examples from many locations. I'm especially intrigued by some of your blue specimens that really resemble the old Vonson? Blue from the north Bay area and the Poorboy Mine Blue Jade out of Washington state except yours looks even better. Thanks for all the pics of all your great finds!....Mel

Thanks Mel, the blue is my favorite to find. I have found an area where I find it all the time, but its pretty tough to reach. There are several caves and most of them like to hang out in the hard to reach areas. A crowbar is a must to pry them out. I posted this photo many times before and hope some members aren't getting sick of it but here is my best example of blue jade I have ever found:
