Here's some stuff that seems like it's been tumbling for...ever! It turned out pretty good, but haven't got the James Shine or the Rollingstone Shine down yet. ;D I would have liked a little sun when I took these pics..but no luck. the better pieces are the ones I took the time to grind down a little. The Petrified Wood still is rough, but this stuff is so hard that I just kept advancing it....even though I probably should have been more patient. Brazilian Pieces Brazilian Slabs Carnelian collected in Virgin Valley, Nevada. the creamsicle color is pretty neat as well. Green River, Utah Wood Some Bots. I ground the one down to a sphere shape, and left it as is because it looks just like an eyeball. My Fishies!! ;D I'm very happy with these, and only a few of them were attacked by sharks on the way. Also a Dugway Geode I cut open today. I really liked this one because of the well-defined darker grey banding. Really Nice. Steve

Bunch of wows in those pics! Love that geode ! It's a beaut! That carnelian from Virgin Valley is really outstanding too. My buddy Tom also got a bunch of that on his Virgin Valley trip. I've found that when doing agates or slabs with a big flat face like those Brazilians, you can have only a few of the big agates with tons of little filler agates and I run the final polish at least 15 days. Just need a lot of surface to surface contact to make those big flats get that mirror finish....Mel

Good stuff Steve! I think the key to that super high shine IS patience... I'd rather spend more on a polish that does it faster. Rob

Great geode, Steve! The bots look great, I lkie the carnelian and of course, love the wood. I've found that the wood takes at least 8 weeks in grind to get it smooth, some of it will take even longer.

Ditto on all- and wood is a LONG LONG LONG run! I run at least 8 weeks- most of my Sawed wood will work at 8 weeks- Rough chunks go at leat 12 and I've had some that has run 18 weeks!!! I figure after a couple million years of petrification- an 18 week course grind is NOTHING!!

Some lovely rocks there Steve - I too just ground to a halt on my pet woods. I stick 'em in for a week or two and they just look exactly the same when they come back out! I'm sure I'll get there soon, but I could do 3 batches of Obsidian in the time it's taken to get this far with my woods! Still - nothing ventured nothing gained! The Geode is my favourite too! That's awesome the way it has 2 voids inside - never seen that before! And such a delightful tone, really lovely. Thanks for sharing the pictures - the bots are great and the carnelians are always a favourite of mine - sometimes not overly spectacular from the outside but when you pick one up - such a beautiful deep shine they take on - I love 'em! Cheers, Harry.

Great batch of tumbles! I really like those Bots and Brazillians - great color and pattern. I have the same problem with my woods too. Some of the stuff I got from Curt(texaswoodie) has been rolling for about 12 weeks and still looks about like yours - just takes alot of patients.

Thanks "ALL" for the kind comments! I sure enjoy hearing them. I don't think I have 8, 12, and especially not 18 weeks of patience in my soul! Maybe after Christmas and I get a bunch of Fishies tumbled, I'll just load my 12lb'r up with Pet Wood and just let her roll. I think if I take the time to grind some of the Wood down, it should help as well. Thanks again. Steve

Very cool -- I especially like the eyeball and the fishies. It is very helpful for me to see and hear about the progress of others. If I had run a bunch of rock for more than a couple weeks in coarse grind, and not known what y'all have been talking about here, I'd think it was me doing something wrong. So, thank you for sharing your wisdom, your successes, and your failures. Oh, and your beauties, too! Keep it up! ;D

So cool. The Bots are really "cooler." Those tumbled slabs are so good too.

Steve those are really nice! I really like the carnelian. I was driving back from Idaho last week and while in Nevada I was tempted to make a side trip to the Virgin Valley. But with lack of time I had to head home. One of these days I will make it there. Not only did you find opal but the carnelian is awesome too. Excellent work on the tumbles!
