Spent the weekend in Green River again with my brother who was visiting from Ohio. I really was determined to dig out the petrified tree we found the first time we went down. The second round was a month or so ago, and went away with a few broken pieces. Was the 3rd time a charm??? what it looked like from the last time After an hour or more of hard digging and pry bar usage a little more digging and more and more strength weekening a lot of wood exposed....but still cemented in. NO STRENGTH LEFT! A broken chunk of the tree. I thought I was going to be able to retrieve a nice full round, but to my suprise, the green clay that has cemented itself around the tree was to strong... There's always next time! ;D Steve

Oh man. All that draining work.
From the piece that broke off it looks to be a fabulous find. It looks like it will be really worth it once you release it from its clay prison.Cant wait to see the final outcome.
Thanks for sharing.

OMG that color is amazing! don't give up, you are bound to pull it out. I have found pieces underwater only to get them out 6 months later. Nature has a way of working them selfs free.

Now that it's well on its way out and you've done so much hard work, where EXACTLY is the hunk of rock located...? How would I get there from Brisbane? WHat is the maximum weight you can carry on international flights?
Snap out of it Mike!!!
That is is sweet looking chunk o' wood. By the time you get it out, you definitely would have earned it.

Looks like it will all be worth it in the end. The piece that broke off looks like it has nice color and looks real solid.

Holy crap Steve!! Now that's some serious wood! You should just relax and take it easy for a couple of weekends. Now, _where_ exactly did you leave that stump.. and _how far_ from Phoenix is it?? heh ;D

Looks like quite a job you have going there - but it will be so worth it in the end! That 'teaser' chunk would be enough motivation in itself! Hang in there. As they say - "Good things come to those that wait"!!!!!

Thanks everyone! ;D Now if you could all meet me out there, stand behind me a chant "MOTIVATIONALLY"...I would get that stump out in no time! ;D I wouldn't mind the help, and would gladly take any of you with me out there. After all...this area was shown to me by our one and only Gaetz. I am taking a break from the stump for a few weeks. Maybe the wet weather will have some affect on loosening the cement around it. It will also give me some time to purchase a Golds Gym membership and start working out. After all....Thanman did notice I was lacking in the "being in shape" area ;D ;D ;D Mark my words...."I WILL CONQUER THE TREE!" Steve
