Hi! No, there's not about skating, although the season is close. It's about a rock I cut a few days ago and polished today. That rock was found by a friend of mine while rockhounding this summer, but because his sack was full and heavy, he gave it to me and asked me to cut it in two pieces. That's what I did. One of the pieces has two polished surfaces that join on a really cutting edge (I tried it with the nail and resulted a lot of nail flakes) The other piece is a little smaller and has 4 polished surfaces (three flat and one natural) There are very interesting details in some areas of both pieces: I really don't know what piece should I keep and which should I give to him, so please vote above. Thanks for looking and for voting, Adrian

Tell him when you cut it in half the damn thing just crumbled so you threw it in the garden and keep both pieces! ;D ;D As a kid, I learned that one person cuts and the other one chooses. Nice looking rock, do you know if it has a name? I found some pieces at the rock sale a couple of weeks ago that look just like it.

We used that rule at our house Stoner - and let me tell you - it led to some VERY precise cutting when it came to splitting something between us! I'd say the cutting/slicing/breaking that goes on within that rule would rival the most precise of engineering! Both of these pieces are beautiful Adrian - I can't say I'd complain about either one! Since you have them there to look at, which do you prefer out of the two?

Ed, I think it's a breciated jasper, but I don't know a specific name for that rock.
I like that rule - one cuts and the other one choses - and without knowing it I managed to do two pieces from between I am not able to pick a fav! The first one is a little bigger, a little more interesting colors, has that awesome edge and it seems it has a very little branch included into it. The other one has 4 polished surfaces (one on natural surface) and more druzy areas.
I like the first one because of the branch (one can be seen a small section of it in the last pic - the crescent in the upper right, that detail is from the second one but on the first one the section of the branch is entire - you can see it close to my thumb in the first pic)) but my wife likes the other one, due to its druzy areas. So, I'll let my friend to decide, especially if you say this is the unwritten rockhound's rule.
Thanks for the votes and the comments.
Adrian

I see your conundrum Adrian! I might have to stick with Stoner's suggestion - crumbled into dust! As for the "unwritten rockhound's rule", I never thought of it as that - it was always the "Keeping peace among the siblings rule" for me! ;D I believe it would make a quite nice unwritten rockhounding rule though!

Both are beautiful but when I cut something for someone else unless it's prearranged, we always flip a coin or something like that to see who picks first...Mel

Well Adrian, I have to agree with the majority here and say why should you put yourself in the position to choose when you already hauled it down from the mountain and cut/polished both pieces? The only way you could choose is to take the one you want most and give your friend the other piece and hope he's happy with it. Each one has a unique personality and there's no way any of us could anticipate which style would be more appealing to your friend. If you don't know him well enough to be confident which one he would prefer then the right thing to do is leave that up to him to decide. Rob
