Well after a short setback I finally got to finish a cross for my son Tom. It's made of sterling silver and the stone is blue quartz. Not the best of stones but it's all I had in blue which is what he asked for. connrock

Tom,
I am so glad you are back doing what you love and this cross definitely looks like a labor of love! The simplicity of the lines perfectly sets the cross and the silver with blue is a perfect complement of colors! He is one lucky son of a wonderful Dad!
Thanks for sharing--both the good news and the beautiful cross!

Tom good to see you got your fleabiteus under control. This one looks a little easier than the last and you obviously learned from that one. This is a sharp piece, I'm sure your son will love it.

Beautiful work! It also seems masculine, so I think your son will love it, especially coming from his dad! I'm glad to hear you're better.

Lady B, Gee thanks !! I was very happy when my son asked for something in a dark blue because some stones just don't look good with silver and I'm NOT in the market to "melt gold"!!
tonyturner, Thanks! This cross was a lot easier then my other 2 fiasco's!!It had it's up's and down's as well but I guess that's part of the learning process!
rockyone, Thanks! I was really surprised to see just how nice the blue and silver did look together.
stonesthatrock,
Thanks!
cpdad Thanks! I hope my son will wear in a minute!!
sandsman1, Thanks! I love dark blue too but it's not all that easy to find and or afford! If I ever do get good enough at this I may spring for some Lapis!!
beefjello, Thanks! My son Tom is very "picky" about everything so I tried to do my best with his cross. It's not the prettiest girl on the block but I think he will at least ask her out on a date!
adrian, Thanks! I tried to keep it simple so it would look masculine.I'm learning that men's and women's jewelry are 2 different entities and not all that easy to create in my mind!
dtcmor, Thanks! I was very surprised when my son asked me to make him a piece of jewelry as he doesn't wear any other then his wedding ring. He asked for a simple cross in something dark blue so he must have thought about it for a while. If I know my son well enough, and I KNOW I do,he will cherish this cross just because it came from his old man!
Jack (Yorkshire) Thanks! I have no rights to this design and am honored that you would like to copy it!! I think it would look amazing in black and silver!!

Very, very nice Conn. I love the style, color and workmanship. You did yourself and son proud. How do you solder the X over the cross without cracking the stone? john

Stefan, Thanks!!
love2hound, Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
John, Thanks! That soldering job was a trip and 1/2!! I couldn't figure out any other way of to make the front and back the same other then soldering the back first, insert the cross and form and solder the front.
I used a brush on heat shield and heated it as slow as possible with a very small tip.I held the fine point (dark blue) of the flame to the side of the X and used a small and thin piece of low temp silver solder.I let the whole thing cool for a long time and then the fun of cleaning began!!!!!!!
That one joint took me twice as long to think out and do then did the entire cross!!!
I think my praying had a lot to do with it too!!!!!!
