Our rock club was invited to a last rock sale today. It was an old-timers worth of 50+ years of collecting. Everything was 1.00 a lb. It was at his residence, and I had no idea what I was in for. There was sooo much rock, and all types. I wasn't dressed for the outside weather, because it was cold, and eventually rainy...and of course I had shorts on. I spent a few hours looking through piles, looking in buckets that were filled with water, going through wooden bins filled with all types if goodies. Thankfully I only brought 40 dollars and so i only spent 40.00. I haven't had time to go through the stuff and wash it and thoroughly enjoy seeing what I found. I bought Crazy Lace, Dino Bone, Brazilians, a few pieces of wood, a few picture jaspers, and some idon'tknowites. My two favorite finds were these two pieces. ;D Variscite. One is really neat with a spider-web patterning...but the other made my jaw drop. A nice Clay Canyon Variscite nodule which shows some very dark and gemmy green. This material from this locality is very hard to find, and it really made my day.
A nice big piece of petrified Palm Wood.
I was in heaven today. ;D
I'll try to post some of the other finds tomorrow...weather permitting. It was snowing just a minute ago.
Just a few rotten shots of 40 dollars worth.
Brazilian slices
Crazy Lace slices and chunks
Misc. Unknown slices
Picture Jaspers...I think Biggs
One of my favs!
Dino Bone and misc. Chunks. (4 pieces on lower left are dino)
A couple others that I really like
I called the President of our rock club, and asked if the guy was going to do this again. I told him I'd love to go through it again. He said he'd keep me informed. They may let a select few go over when they are loading the rest of it to haul it away. They are going to haul it to one of the kids houses and dump it over the hills and stuff, and let the grandkids do rockhounding whenever they'd like. I thought that was a cool way to let Grandpa's Legacy continue.
