A couple of days ago I received a very interesting package in the mail from Rocky(rockyone). I opened it up to find some very unique slabs of Obsidian and Blue Goldstone. They are the same slabs that he uses to make his knife blades and handles with. There were a couple of mahogany slabs, a couple of tri-flow slabs, and four of the blue goldstone slabs. My favorites are the goldstone, which he said are a man-made material - the purple hue and metallic flakes make it just unreal. The tri-flow is cool also in that it resembles a moss agate when back lit. Here are some pics to show them off. Mahogany - Might try some knife handles with this..... Tri-flow - a mix of black with white and mahogany veins.... Back lit - really cool!...... Blue Goldstone - looks like some kind of metallic auto paint...... Thanks Rocky for some awesome slabs!! I can't wait to work with some of this stuff!. They might be just thick enough to try knapping a couple of arrowhead points too! ;D Thanks everyone for looking! Dave

If the blue goldstone polishes anything like the goldstone I just finished you are going to be very pleased. Love the obsidian. Tami

Is the one in the second photo the same slab as in the third? Amazing!

That tri-flow is cool when backlit - I'd have to just keep it that way as a display piece, and find a way to have it always backlit! Neat stuff.

I see I'm not the only one that loves the Goldstone! ;D I hope it works up as good as you guys say - it really is some neat material! When you first look at it, it appears as a solid black slab of Obsidian. You have to roll it around in the light to see the purple hue and the rainbow of speckled flakes. The only way to describe it is like a metallic car paint. Adrian - Actually, the 2nd and 4th pictures are the same slabs. That 3rd one is the back-lit view of the other slab he sent me - it does not have as good of white/mahogany pattern as the one I have shown here, but the same "mossy" look appears inside. Both slabs are midnight black, which makes it odd to me that it would back-light so well with such a great pattern. It is an added bonus! ;D Amy - I had thought the same about leaving the slab whole and displaying it back-lit as you mentioned. But the surface patterns are so fantastic. I might have to cut it in two - display the better piece, and work the other half. I hope I don't regret that decision later on!?!

Those are some real nice slabs. I really like the blue goldstone (is that an oxymoron?) the gold goldstone I could live without.
