Some time ago I posted about a rock hounding trip I made out to a farm that is agate, jasper and carnelian rich. If you want to go back and check it out, here's the link... forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=Pictures&action=display&thread=1190868133It's amazing how quickly a single post can get buried under 8 other pages of posts. I'm not complaining! It's great we have so much fresh material always coming onto the board. Anyway, I did not post all of my pics of what I found so, with so many awy having fun hunting rocks in Arizona and with Randy begging for more pics, it seems like a good time to drag them out and share them. Here are bunch of different chunks of jasper. As far as I know they don't have any specific name. This stuff is just lying out there all over the fields. Once you learn to distinguish it from the other rocks, you start to see it everywhere. I love the variety of colours and patterns. Lots of the jasper is mixed with agate. Some pieces also have small crystal clusters on them. These next two are some pieces of petrified wood. there is not a whole lot of it around so it is pretty sweet when I find some. The next two photos are of the same rock. The colour, patterning and presence in the area of lots of agate and some pet wood have lead me to believe it is agatized wood. Would do you think. Agatized wood? Yes or no? Most of these pieces are too big for my 7 inch tile saw and I do not just want to hammer smash them. So i guess I'll just sit on them for now. Thanks for looking. Have a top day. Mike

First of all that last one is an agatized wood- no doubt!!! Second of all I think with a little practice and patience you could get your tile saw to cut those - I mean I remember that you have huge hands but I'm guessing most of those rocks are no wider than 4 inches- Most 7 inch saws will handle a 2 inch cut- so 2 inches on one side- 2 inches on the other- OKOKOK I'm being greedy- I wanna see them cut up!!!!

Wow Mike that is some fantastic stuff. I like the one in the third pic the best. I'm with Stefan, I wanna see those cut up. I have a 7" saw also and have managed to cut some fairly large pieces with it. Of course I'm not lucky enough to find this stuff just lying around.

Fantastic finds, Mike. I am pretty sure too that is agatized wood.
Tony, you've found indeed the most beautiful rock, way to go for finding a great beauty amongst other beauties! It really has the most astonishing color combination.
The third one from the end is also very special.

I think we should band together and see if we can get a fairly priced junket to Australia and let Mike take us on a rock hunt!!
Great stuff Mike.

As I have mentioned before, I am more than happy to send a parcel of rocks to anyone who wanst some. All you need to do is cover the postage costs...which unfortunately are considerable...especially with the Aussie dollar worth over $0.90 US at the moment.
However the offer still stands. I've got more of this jasper and more of the Chinchilla pet wood than I know what to do with.
PM me if you're interested.
I am heading out to the farm again in mid January with my son and my dad. A boys day out while we visit my parents who will be holidaying in Noosa (about 1 3/4 hours from the farm.) It will probably be at least 36 degrees c by then but I never knock back an opportunity to get out there.
