Howdy folks and Randy *L* here's another bunch of eye candy from the too big for saw piles. Thanks for lookin....Mel Orbicular rhyolite from the Grandview Gold Mine near Lucerne Valley, CA. It's sort of purple gray and white when sawed. Gem Hill Agate from near the Tropico Mine, Rosamund, CA. Sort of honey agate with weird roots etc inside. Brainhead Agate from Brianhead, Utah. Very colorful though often fractured. Lots of moss and breccia. Giant Firefly Jasper boulder with a side of poppies etc; Big boulder of Stone Canyon Jasper. This one is solid! For comparison, two huge boulders of Brecciated Jasper from the Big Sandy Creek in Indian Valley. Don't ask me how I packed the larger from the canyon as I can barely lift it now. I guess I were much younger in them days *L*

More spectacular finds Mel. Is there a good camping area near Big Sandy Creek that accommodates a travel trailer?

Tony: There are nice campgrounds on Big Sandy with ponds even, but all are private hunting ranches for quail and wild boar now. Probably very difficult to get access for rock collecting. On the Varian Ranch at Parkfield though, he has wonderful campsites right on the creek south of the ranch headquarters which are easily accessed with a trailer as there are numerous gates. In addition, there are campsites by the motel owned by the Varian family in town which is right on the creek. This is one of the same creeks that drains the deposits at Stone Canyon so it's full of material. I think, when I was last there the collecting/camping fee was about $30 per day but well worth it as the creek runs heavy and new jasper is exposed every year. Needless to say, these are summer and fall trips as when the creeks are full, you can't hunt ..Mel
