Beautiful colours and they seem to shape up nicely - I have the same trouble trying to get my obsidian to polish up well.

Those are cool!! Looks like might next batch will be glass. I have a flat rate box full of it from "Horseinaround" that I still haven't done yet. What are you using for polish? You may want to try the TXP polish. I can't remember who sells it, Jeremy uses it all the time.

I also used A.O. polish and they ran for 12 days with a butt load of pellets.

I have been meaning to get some glass slag and tumble it fo quite awhile but I have just been lazy about seeking it out and have too many other rocks to tumble as it is. I think for those who are not turned off by the "man made" colors and patterns, it opens up a new realm of possibility for making fairly cheap and easy but attractive & unique items. Beach glass was actually my very first tumble and after lurking here for a while along with some beginners luck, I managed to pull off some pretty good results on my first try. Since then, I have not tumbled much in the way of glass as a finished tumble. Now I primarilly use it as a filler material excepting any particular pieces I like. My last batch of glass was written off due to cross contamination so rather than sending it back to prepolish I just aborted it and moved the pendants I had in the batch over to my agate batch which was only 3 weeks behind it and thankfully, everything that wasn't glass was saved in the end. Glass always seems to have little flaws and bubbles in it so it's probably expected that tumbling may begin to reveal those inconsistencies lurking just below the surface. The only thing to watch out for is that those little cavies don't trap grit and then release it in the next stage. Get a few of those and your whole batch can go south pretty quick like mine did. The amorphous to semicrystaline soft silicas (glass, obsidian, apache tears, opals etc.) all seem to have their own unique characteristics. I have had pretty good luck tumbling semicrystaline obsidians with harder jaspers given some special considerations but I put a couple of pieces of apache tears in with a regular batch and couldn't believe how fast they wore down but then they never took a shine in the end either. If someone ever asks, "What's up with all the little holes in these?" Just tell them straight faced that those aren't holes, those are signature marks, randomly worked into the material on purpose. ;D
