I was totally not expecting this dino bone to "bleed" -- how freaky! This slab doesn't look nearly that red until you cut into it...

Yeah, most of the color in dino bone and many other quartz minerals is due to iron salts or iron minerals impregnating the material ( hematite etc). I've even noticed silvery looking hematite making up the cell walls in dino bone. Not at all uncommon for the slabs or rough to bleed red. Manganese impregnated quartz minerals like psilomelane often bleed black....Mel

Wild. I mean, it was already so wild to be holding it in my hands, and Tina had already wondered if I should cut it any further (after the local rock shop) because it looked so cool and sort of sacred... and then as soon as I do it's like this omen, lol.

Gorgeous slab. It's really wierd to cut into a rock and it bleeds. It always freaks me out.

LOL fossilbrain.........you will get used to it. Dino bone is pretty sacred though in my opinion. It is one of my very favorites to cab.

Jeff, I'll have to remember that. Otherwise I might think I lost a digit. I haven't had the pleasure of working with dino bone yet. Its at the top of my list though.

EEWWW!! Well I'm new to this whole thing myself.. but I can honestly say it does make me wanna cringe... simply because I know it was alive once... I mean after all it was right? or is it just a name for a rock? see I dunno , but I don't like cutting the ones that "bleed" either ... sorta like I think the fire agate look like milk leaking or "bleeding".....but thats just me.. awesome pic tho !!! looks like something from some rock horror flick.. lol.. ;D.. jks.. sorry .. couldn't resist ..
