Howdy, here's todays batch. it was mostly tinies but here are the larger pieces. Upper left are more Bubblegum Agate, right hand side is Hector Siding material. That stuff is nice and polishes like glass, mostly Chapinite and opalized agate with some plumey material. Lower left is more deep blue Indian pass dumortierite. Rest is a few poppies, Newberry Nodules, Indian Green Moss, one Laguna and a Condor. Thanks for lookin...Mel

I have a few pieces of bubblegum agate but I haven't tumbled it yet. I STILL don't have the patience for agates that take a long time to shape. Looks like you did a pretty good job on yours though Mel, great shine.

Beautiful shine on those pieces! I've never seen bubblegum Agate. Where does it come from?

Nice batch. The bubble gums are so cool. The little blue one at the bottom left of center looks like sodalite. Of course it's not or you would know.

Ed: Bubblegums come from some of the same areas in South Dakota that the Fairburns and Prairies come from. Railroad Butte, SD is one of the areas I've heard mentioned. They take forever to grind too and many never get very smooth as they are prone to fissures etc. Very hard though and polish like glass. Pretty even if not totally without flaws.
Wizard: Yep that lighter blue one looks like sodalite even if it's not. Most of the tumbles from this lot are very dark blue denim blue with sparkles. Neat stuff! This batch I got at the Stoddard Tailgater and it came form Indian Pass down in SE Calif.

Rich, The Laguna is the clear and red banded stone between the Indian green Moss and the small red and white piece of Hornitos Poppy jasper....Mel

That's a really awesome batch, Mel I could stare at those for quite a while. Makes me want to wire some up around a bonfire.

Cool Bubblegums!!!!! I love the shine they take (even if they take forever- I've taken to cutting them up- seems to speed the rough grind!)

The gloss on those bubble gums is incredible. I find very interesting the two ones right under the bubble gums.

Adrian: Those are Newberry Nodules. A volcanic ash bed just a mile or so from a small desert town called Newberry Springs here in California contains millions of small thundereggs, usually not over an inch or so in diameter and many perfect little eggs even smaller. Most contain solid interiors of blue to gray agate. You can dig a bucket full in just a couple of hours. It's kind of fun to tumble them until the agatized interior shows and even the inner matrix takes a good polish. For some reason, the kids love them so I tumble quite a few.....Mel
