Great machine, Grayfingers! I wander why is that small pulley between the two shafts necessary, doesn't the barrel rotate the second shaft?
Beautiful landscapes and rocks, too! Thanks for posting the pictures!

Hiya, Well... I've got 18lbs in each of those barrels at 3/4 full. I feel that both shafts being driven (1 pushing, 1 pulling ) distributes the load/torque better, and boy do they go! kind of like the way a 4-wheel drive lines out a car, I feel it helps the barrels run "true" as well. I am hoping to build a large PVC barrel something like 14x18 to tumble larger whole agates in, and I expect the double drivers will help the 1/3 horse motor roll a big load. Bill

Double driven rollers eh, nice. It makes sense too because the barrels are never perfectly cylindrical so there will be points of greater and lesser contact as the barrels rotate. Synchronized double driven rollers should increase the contact areas where the transfer of motion occurs, theoretically stabilizing rotation by reducing traction slip and thus reducing unnecessary friction wear also. Oh-ya, the rocks and scenery are great too. ;D

Yes, we have had rather low water this summer, hottest since the 1930's! Makes for great agate hunting as the low water exposes more hidden beauties. The first pic is only a side channel, the main river lies to the right. It is a big river by the time it gets close to the N. Dakota border.

Love the home made tumbler. I think I'm going to try to make one similar to yours, but maybe with another set of roller's for different sized barrels. You did an excellent job on that.
