hey Mel, Very nice sagenite. I've never collected there, but I've heard from a friend of mine who was over there not too long ago (within a couple of years) that the area (at least where he collects) is outside the park, but they want you to think that it is inside to discourage collecting. I also love collecting all through the Mojave area & southwest deserts in CA & AZ. We are the luckiest people in the world to have access to collecting areas like these with the wealth of top quality material that is available to us. ;D Patti

Hmmm, I remember seeing the Owlhead Mountains on Google Earth. I'm not very far from there. Do you happen to remember where the good collecting locations are?
I haven't found any agate in or near Pahrump yet, and I'd love to find reasonably close places to collect some.

Michaeljohn: I just went to the same area described in the old Desert Gem Trails by Mary Frances Strong as out of Saratoga Springs. Been like 30 years or more. Only thing I remember was a long drive over crappy roads and hard digging for almond shaped nodules. Oh, and it was hotter than Hell even in the early spring *L*.....Mel

Hmmm ... can't say as I have that book ... or ANY rock books LOL. One of these days when I'm bored I'll have to jump in the car and wander over to that neck of the woods. It seems like anywhere I go I find SOMETHING, so it won't be a wasted trip.
