I cleaned out the slab bucket this morning and here are a few slabs from Burro Creek This looks like it has fractures, but they are all healed and it is very solid The colors in this are unreal, but it does have some soft spots in it I cut some Challis material that is WOW, but I will put it in another thread to keep the bandwidth down. Thanks for looking...................Tony

Man, that is some wild looking material especially the last ones. Do those pale ones have kinda a blue or lavender cast to them? Kinda looks like they do on my monitor. Those sure are solid slabs for cabbing etc....Mel

I've seen several different posts and ebay auctions that say the fracture is healed. What does this mean and how do you know. I've tried cutting some different slabs and shapes the last week and had everything crumble. Before I started everything looked good. Still learning here!

Mel - I would call it between a lavender and a bluish grey color, it is very solid though.
bouldergal - you can still see the cracks, but if you inspect it very closely, the cracks have filled in with something. It almost looks like it was glued back together, but it is very solid, I tried to break one on the crack, there was no breaking it.

I love the brecciated look of healed fractures. The colors in that last one are terrific! bouldergal - in some cases, fractured material is "healed" with additional solid material. The rock has recemented its pieces together with more rock. In the first slab, you can see where agate has sealed the crack. Brecciated material is a great example of this - think of Stone Canyon Jasper. Large areas of jasper "floating" in agate. In more recently fractured materials - such as material mined with explosives or heavy equipment - there's obviously not enough geological time to heal those fractures. And then there are the half-healed fractures, where some time has passed, but not enough to fully repair the damage. In those cases if you hold your tongue just right while slabbing, cabbing, or tumbling - and stick your right foot in the air, you left toe in the mud, and wiggle your pinkies - you just might get a good cab out of the half-healed fractures.

Ok, Ok Akansan..... you forgot that I had to hold my mouth just right, too! I guess I'll just have to pull out the magnifying glass for another thing in my life! Being far sighted with old eyes is a real pain!
