Hi All,
Just wanted to introduce myself. Names Jerry and I'm from Iowa.
Not to long ago my daughter peaked my interest in geodes and it sort of spread to everything "rocks". I'm probably a little older than most of you, but hope that's not a big deal.
So far, I've just been opening my geodes with a hammer, but I've been thinking of a saw and polisher of some type.
I've got three different geode and rockhound sites on Squidoo ( I won't give their addresses cause I don't want to get in trouble for spaming) and I'm learning more about rockhounding as I'm building the sites.
I mention the sites because I've added links to this board and the home site. They are both great.
I've picked up a few things here, and it appears that I can learn a lot from you guys. Thanks for making it a great board!

I'm probably a little older than most of you, but hope that's not a big deal. Here we are between 14 and about 70 years old people, so don't worry about the age. Anyway, this hobby will make you feel younger in no time. Welcome and get a rock saw, don't hammer the geodes, it's pitty. Adrian

Welcome Aboard, Jerry. There are no old members here, except for the rocks and fossils. ;D This is definitely the place to be for helpful tips, friendly banter, and gorgeous photos. Now hurry up and post some pix of those geodes you've been hammering. Lady B

Thanks for the warm welcome! Don't know if this will work, but if it does this is a picture of my daughters favorite. And this was my first one. If they didn't show up, I'll try again later.

Hey Jerry, I'm a newbie here myself but someone was nice enough to help me out about posting pix. I then shared the info with another newbie. You can find that posted info via this link. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1183685645And you really should post your pix in the Photo section because if your other geodes look anything like the one in your post here, people are really going to want to see them and the Photo thread is the best display area for them. Welcome to the board! Get yourself a saw and stop hammering those geodes. You'll be very happy with the results.

Welcome to the board. I'm a newbie myself, so we'll learn together. I've already learned a great deal here. And the members are fantastic.

Welcome! No saw? Me neither, altho I did finally get a Workforce, and am having a blast. However, members will work a deal! You can send them big rocks, they slab, keep some and send the rest back. Works for me! I simply posted a thread asking who had big saws. Got several replies. Now all I have to do is find the time to get my rocks shipped!

Hi there Brewster. Normally I say it's okay to hammer rocks, although there are some who believe it's a mortal seen if you do, but in this case don't hammer the geodes. There's too much beauty in them to just break them up. Instead, wait until you get a saw. Though I don't own one, I have seen them in action, and that is a Workforce saw. They work great, and come at a good price. Hope to read your posts, and see your pics.

Welcome Jerry! I agree with Lady B. Rocks and fossils are the only old ones here!
