Hi yall, I'v been a rock hound since I was big enough to throw rocks! I grew up in Alpine Texas and lovingly refer to the town as agateheaven. I was there last week and picked up red and black plume agates, christmas agate (as they call it) and flowergarden agates. My biggest prize was a 10.5 gram flawless piece of labradorite crystal. I dont know if that is truely what it is but it is beautiful faceted into a gem. I will try to get a pic of it but for now its a light off yellow and has an inner radience. I want to polish my small treasures but alas those toy tumblers break before i get to the polishing stage. Thanks for letting me introduce myself.

Howdy, Texan! Welcome to RTH. I'm not a native Texan, so I had to get out a map to find Alpine! San Angelo, too, I'm afraid!
It sounds like you've already caught on to the fact that everyone likes pictures...
Welcome!

Hey, Welcome! Some of us here took a trip this past spring down to Woodward Ranch (south of Alpine, but I think you know that ), and are planning a return trip next year. I'm over here in barely NM...

Welcome to the board. I don't know why they call the feldspar from that area labradorite. It looks just like moonstone to me. We are hoping to move to the Texas hill country in the not too distant future and are looking forward to Texas rockhounding.

I been doing some surfing...and can someone tell me if the "labradorite" is actually Othoclase feldspar? I found a couple of sites that show what i think is the same stuff but it comes from Madagascar and Africa. Thanks John at JS Gems you got me a wondering! Thats a good thing. lol

Dang, you lucky hound, you have great rocks. I am envious! I also invite you to check out the competition forum, and post a recipe. All entrants will get a RTH T-shirt, and there are other prizes. There are 2 threads; one has the rules etc., and one has the actual recipes. Glad to have you!
