Hi all-I have several nice rose quartz tumbles that I keep picturing all strung together to make a nice, chunky necklace. would it be too ambitious to drill side holes through these? I'm talking about 1/2 to 1" tumbled nuggets straight through the middle.

I only drill 3/16 inch deep holed for a eye-post. In quartz it can take a while. You can try one piece and see, but I think it would take a real long time.
If you do, drill with as short a bit as you can because they break real easy. Even if you have to come back later with a longer bit whenthe hole is deeper.
What if you took a few of the nicer/larger ones and drilled them at each end for eye-posts and connected them with small jump rings, and then made the rest out of a strand of already drilled quartz beads?

What Daniel said, plus be sure to back the drill completely out of the hole when you "pulse" the drill. Without flutes on it, there is no way for the Quartz debris to escape if you don't back out the drill. The deeper the hole, the greater the problem becomes.
