Ummmm...probably a stupid idea/question but I have a good sized round peice of glass plate that came in a telescope mirror grinding kit. Now, I won't be grinding any mirrors I can tell you that, so I was wondering.......
I have a small slab of woodward moss I wanted to send to rocky for the table, but it's awfully rough. Can I use the glass plate and the regular stages of grit/polish to put a shine oin the slab? Or will I just grind a hole in the glass plate?
Thanks for any input.

You're on the right track. This is exactly how you hand polish (no machine) a slab, but you need a separate piece of glass for each grit.

Hmmmmm. I'll call the glass company tomorrow and see if they have some plate glass. Thanks!

Lonewolf - If that piece of telescope glass is flat, use it. You don't need anything else . . . until you break it.
I'll differ with Akansan here - that same piece of glass can be used through all the grits. It's easy to clean off.
How thick is that telescope glass, by the way? Just curious.

LWRH - "Or will I just grind a hole in the glass plate?"
Nope. You'll just end up with a piece of frosted glass.

I'll get it out and measure it. I'll take a pic too.
