Hey all. For all you folks out there suffering through some high temps right now, here's a recipe for a nice refreshing drink. When it gets really hot around here I usually mix up a pitcher at a time. Mix 60-70% 7up with 30-40% club soda, then cut up a lime and (in a 16oz glass, use a quarter of a lime, in a pitcher I use a whole lime) squeeze the juice into the glass or pitcher and serve over lots of ice. The colder it is the better. I used to drink just plain 7up, but it always left me thirsty(from the sugar). Adding the club soda cuts the sweetness of the 7up and the lime helps make it taste refreshing. Try it, you'll like it. I call it "Stoner's Cooler". And, if you want to make it something to get a buzz from, throw in some bourbon whiskey, I prefer Kessler's, but you could make it a job for "Jack" or any other brand of bourbon. When you add the alcohol, it's called a bourbon pres.

i will have to try that, Stoner, thanks for the recipe. the other interesting "boozy" thing you can do with 7Up and tequila (EARTHDOG ARE YOU LISTENING?) is to chill both and get a long shotglass (warning this may cause dents in your furniture) pour a little (half) tequila in the glass, top it off with 7Up. cover it with your hand and smack it on a hard surface. it fizzes...guzzle. you won't mind the heat after two.

Sounds very tasty. Here is one of my yummy summer coolers. Called the Red Rooster....
1 1/2 quarts cranberry juice cocktail
1 6-oz can frozen orange juice concentrate, defrosted, but a bit slushy...
2 cups vodka
Directions
1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large plastic container. Freeze for several hours. It will not freeze solid but will achieve the consistency of a slushy.
2. Scoop into wine glasses and serve.
Serves: makes 2 quarts
You can also use any fruity concentrate.

Mmmmm KD, that's what we call a Tequila Shooter and you're right, a couple of those and you just don't care how hot it is.
Another one that's good is pink lemonade and malibu rum, it's called a Summer Hummer. And for the party crowd, take one watermelon, cut into bite size pieces or melon balls. Divide between two large zip lock bags, pour 1/2 quart of vodka in each bag and let soak in fridge. Keep cold and just much melon, be another one of those times you don't care how hot it is.
I'll have to give your's a try Stoner, sounds like a good refreshing one.

Arrrrggghhhh!! Due to medical problems I can't have carbonated beverages or alcohol. All that stuff sure does sound good though! Well, I'm sitting back drinking ice water and lemonade.

Cher, Just wanted to add to your watermelon idea. Here we also take a melon and cut a plug out of one end. Next we get someone with a small hand to carve the inside out (like a pumpkin). Then we cut the red into chunks and add grapes, diced apples, peaches, cherries and whatever other fruit you might like, and put it all back into the hollow watermelon. We then pour in either a bottle of rum or vodka,(you could use anything really) and use duct tape to hold the plug back on top. Put it in the fridge until it is nice and cold and use the melon to serve out of. Great for parties!!
