Do you know how well this stuff cabs if it's not a tumbling rough? - that stuff is beautiful!

Frankly, I don't know how well this stuff might cab. I'll ask on the general board, and see what others know. I'd be curious to know.

I bought this last month from rainboroc on eBay. I have already half-promised to trade this for a few pieces of Savannah River Agate, but if I don't hear back in a few days, I'll talk to you about doing a small trade.

um, isn't the color on these just an oxidization on the surface? If you cab and polish somehting like that, you would remove the color from the surface in the proces... dunno if it would re-oxidize or if there is a process to get it to do that again or not after polishing it. I've only ever seen chunks of rough offered, never a "finished" piece.

Good point. You're probably right. I recently asked about cabbing this stuff on the general board, and here is what sandsman offered:
"the stuff is great lookin but very soft and then theres even softer stuff in it haha so if you go slow you can get some cabs --- i had a piece along time ago and did get a few small cabs but i remember it was tuff to get a polish but it can be done --- "
He doesn't really say how much of the colorful stuff was still there, though.

I cut into a piece of this today and the only color on the inside was a mottled gold color. When I get a chance, I'll try to grind the outside and see what happens.

Hi guys, I think you will be really disappointed if you try to cab the peacock copper, it is actually treated with a chemical to bring out the rainbow of colors that appear on the surface.
It will cab but the end result will be a metallic cab with a solid color, if it looks metallic at all. Much like bornite, just a dull grayish color with a little sheen to it.

What chemical is it treated with? I have some of this, cut one piece open and it's gold inside (like pyrite) but if you could shape and then re-treat it, might be interesting.

I'm not sure what it is treated with, copper sulfate I think. If you didn't polish the cab or if you cut the cab and took it to the last stage you could probably treat it again so the color comes out, then maybe try to polish it.
