Will those purples in the 1st pic go through the stone? Or is that surface alteration?
Ok - So how deep is this stuff, and how long do I have to hold my breath to collect it? I'm in poor shape, but I think I have a friend I can convince that life is incomplete without diving for jade.
Seriously though, how deep do you dive? What gear do you use? How do you get the rocks to the surface?

Deb, The first picture is basically stained jade , or surface alteration. It gets that way when they are embedded in the cliffs, then they fall into the ocean after large rainstorms or rock slides. Its called " Vulcan Jade " A lot of collectors love them, if you grind them it comes off like the last photo ( it was all red before I ground it ). Some people just love the rusty look. As for diving for jade its a blast but very strenuous, the cliffs are 180 ft high. on some occasions you can find nice pieces on the beach but its usually picked over. When diving you can find pieces as shallow as 2 ft and well over 50, you just never know !

How do you get down the cliffs? That is a good question. I bet he's referring to the cliffs actually being under water, and that he dives at around 190 feet. I might be wrong, though. MrCoffee
