So we all know the carbide is what our tumbling grit is composed of, but as far as the shiney metallic stuff- I have to ask, does anyone know- can it be tumbled? or cabbed? or do we just have to enjoy it in its shiney rough state?

I don't know about tumbling the stuff Rally, but the rock shop in Mountain View has some really cool looking spheres made from silicon.

Rally, I couldn't scratch the Silicon with a knife but I could with a quartz sceptre, just to give you a rough idea of the hardness. Also, it is relativley light for it's size so I am guessing it isn't very dense. This stuff was cheap, check you local shows and I'll bet you can get enough chunks to fill a 1 pound tumbler for 10-15 bucks.
Or just through your old microchips in the tumbler!

There's a "seasonal" rock shop/stand out on 128 past Philo that had a tray full of it last time I stopped by, so next time I'm out there I'll buy a handful and see what I can make of it.
