Hi all. Hope you are all ready for a newbie. I started rockhounding while I go canoeing. It makes it nice to get to place other have not been. While in the Trueman Lake area in Missouri I found a small beach area along some 30+ foot cliffs. I got out and started rockhounding and found some ocean type fossils fast. I also found what I think is agatized coral. But the big mystry to me is the oval shaped items I found that I think might be some parts of some large teeth ? They are on the left side of the photo. Any one have a guess?? The right side is of some of what I think is agatized coral. The second photo shows a full clam type fossil that is on some coral. I will have to use a AOL webpage address because I can not figure out how to use the photo insert here. Thanks all and happy rock hunting to you all. hometown.aol.com/mhook1955/index.html

Hmmm. I'm thinking they're something more along the line of concretions or flint nodules. Concretions often form around some kind of fossil remain and the flint nodules are often the result of silica filling cavities left by crinoid heads, corals, sponges or such that have dissolved away leaving a cavity.....mel

Ya, they could be fossils, what types not many would know. Your best bet it taking to comeone local who know local fossils. When ever i go to the Mineral Museum here in downtown Pheonix, i can always find examples of fossils you can collect around the state. Otheriwse, try and get better in focus shots, and sumbitt them here and other fossil boards. As there not many here who are fossil savy, including me. I know very little about fossils. ANd Mels right, they could be flint nodules, but better photos may prove otherwise when looking for ID online. IN person its a whole nother story becasue one doesnt have to reply on photos.
